Introducing The White Butterfly Foundation

From Our Founder, Selina Casey

Losing our son, Tóraí, changed me. He was born silently, and in that moment, I felt a pain and emptiness I couldn’t put into words. As time passed, it became clear that there was a huge gap in psychological support services for parents who had experienced baby loss at any stage. I knew I wanted to create something meaningful from my pain—a way to help others experiencing similar loss. That’s how The White Butterfly Foundation was born.

Our mission is simple: We aim to bridge the gap in psychological support services by offering free/donation-based professional psychological support to parents who have experienced miscarriage, baby loss, or neonatal death. No one should face this kind of grief alone, and certainly not with the added stress of financial strain. We want to create a safe space for parents to heal, to share their stories, and to remember their babies.

One of the most special projects we’ve started is The Timeless Tile Collection. A stunning collection of handcrafted ceramic tiles fully personalised for your little one. Our tile-making workshops run throughout the year, for occasions like valentines, mothers day, fathers day, Christmas, etc). Here bereaved parents can create a unique tribute to their baby, whether they decided to name their little one or not. For me, making a tile for Tóraí was a way to honour him in a tangible, lasting way, and it brings me comfort knowing other parents find the same solace in this process.

Over Baby Loss Awareness Week we had the privilege of launching The White Butterfly Foundation with events at Stormont and the Guildhall in Derry. Here we displayed hundreds of our Timeless Tiles. Seeing so many of you come together to honour your babies and break the silence surrounding baby loss was incredibly moving. Each tile we displayed represented a life that didn’t stay, and it served as a powerful reminder that these babies, though gone, are never forgotten.

Through The White Butterfly Foundation, I am privileged to help other parents on their journey through loss. Our babies may not be with us, but their impact on our lives is immeasurable. They will always be remembered, and together, we can make sure no parent has to go through this alone.

With love,
Selina Casey
